PRC recruits Olympian Scott Overall!

PRC today welcomed Olympic marathon runner Scott Overall to a promotional fun run, with the All Party Parliamentary Group for Athletics and the Sport and Recreation Alliance.

The run took place after a reception organised by Running Club and the other groups, which was attended by MPs and staff with an interest in running and athletics.

PRC members picked Scott's brains over training techniques, the Olympic marathon route and all things running before he set off in the rain with an intrepid group.

It was hugely inspirational to have such a successful marathon runner with and we're hugely grateful to Scott for coming along

Big thanks to Nicky Morgan MP and the All Party Parliamentary Group on Athletics, the Sport and Recreation Alliance and Aviva for their help, and to Run and Become, and Run England, who helped to make the event a huge success.

All our best wishes to Scott at 2012!

Some words from PRC member Harriet:

On Sunday 25 March, I took part in my second 6 mile event since joining the Parliamentary Running Club last year.  As I owe my new found love of running to PRC, I wore one of our lovely t-shirts to represent the club at the Sport Relief event.

The run took place just down the road on the Mall where there was a great atmosphere as people took part in 1, 3 or 6 mile runs in the sunshine.  Everyone wore red Sport Relief socks which I’m sure I’ll wear at running club soon!

Our Friday session also enjoyed some "sprint 'n' steps" session in Victoria Tower Gardens.

Watch this space for a Christmas themed run next week!

PRC Runners at the Old Deer Park 10k

PRC Captain Liz and two associate members stepped out at the Old Deer Park 10k in freezing fog at 9.15am on 20th November.

Despite the cold conditions and poor visibility the race was a great success and there were Personal Bests all round.

PRC runs against riots!

Parliamentary Running Club hit the streets of Clapham on 23rd August, running 5k to raise money for community cleanup projects following the riots that hit the area earlier in the month.

The event, which was organised in conjunction with local Police Community Support Officers, was attended by 169 runners from all over London, and covered by the Evening Standard.

PRC was represented by Nick, Martin, Sarah and Liz (pictured below, L-R), with Nick and Martin heading off in the "faster" group and Liz and Sarah modestly opting to start in the "less fast" group.

Special congratulations go to Nick, who impressed by storming home in the top 10. Speaking afterwards, Nick said, "I think I was in the top 10, or maybe 5 or something."

The event raised over £1300 in total.
